Best Graphics Card - 4k Gaming

When it comes to 4k gaming, the obvious choice is Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. If you are willing to lower the settings slightly in some games the Radeon VII, Radeon RX 5700 XT, GeForce RTX 2080 Super, and GeForce GTX 1080 Ti will all provide smooth gameplay at 4K.

Best Graphics Card - 1440p Gaming

If you are looking for a step-up from 1080p into 1440p gaming, AMD’s Radeon RX 5700, Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 2070 Super, GeForce RTX 2060 Super, AMD Radeon RX Vega 64, and Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1080 are all able to handle this with ease. These cards will also support framerates higher then 60fps, allowing you to make use of higher monitor refresh rates (144mhz).

If you are happy to live with slightly lowered setting or you don’t have a monitor with a high enough refresh rate to support higher framerates, the GeForce RTX 2060, GeForce GTX 1070 Ti, Radeon RX Vega 56, and GeForce GTX 1070 will all make suitable 1440p cards.

Best Graphics Card - 1080p Gaming

If you just want to run games in good old 1080p, the Radeon RX 590, Radeon RX 580, GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB), GeForce GTX 1060 (3GB), GeForce GTX 1650, and Radeon RX 570 can all excel at 1920×1080 gaming. They can even manage 2560×1440 in some cases if you are willing to dial down your settings. However, the lack of sufficient GDDR5 memory on some of these cards, may cause issues at higher resolutions.

Best Graphics Card - VR Gaming

Any of the cards recommended for 1440p or 4k are good options for driving a virtual reality headset. In order to future proof your setup for VR we recommend one of the following options: RTX 2080 Ti, Radeon VII, Radeon RX 5700 XT, GeForce RTX 2080 Super, GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, AMD’s Radeon RX 5700, Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 2070 Super, or GeForce RTX 2060 Super. These cards will help to increase the longevity of your PC’s VR support as the technology progresses.
